M6 Summer School

M6 Theatre have been lucky enough to receive funding from the BBC Performing Arts Fund and The Granada Foundation to run a summer school this year. This is open to young people aged 12 -18. They will be working with street theatre company Aqueous Humour to create a performance piece for the Rochdale Feel Good Festival. This will be a very challenging project so please make sure you are happy with the idea of performing to strangers in the streets of Rochdale before signing up! Tom will be sharing his knowledge and giving you the skills you need to cope, so don’t worry if you’ve never done it before. You must be available for all of the days from 10am-4pm (performance days may be shorter).

Ideas Session Saturday 5 July

Devising Week 1 Monday 18-Friday 22 August

There is a cost of £20 to take part in the summer school.

M6 Work on Our Street Project with Greenbank Primary School

The Act Now! team have started working with young people from Greenbank School as part of Our Street, an inter-generational and cross-cultural project that will run through to Spring 2013.

The project explores the different families who might live together on a street and the community activities they could share in. Sixteen young people have been participating in weekly drama workshops focussing on performance skills, team work and storytelling ready for a performance in the Spring.

Parents, carers and participants also recently watched the M6 production of The Street Where I Live as a creative stimulus and introduction to the second strand of the project, Collected Voices, by Cartwheel Arts. Parents, grandparents and extended family members were asked to share their memories from the street where they live and these stories will form part of a DVD.

This project was part-funded through the Greater Manchester Strategic Arts Fund, with grant funding from Arts Council England & the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities and supported by Link4Life.
